PMI Mentoring and Development Programme

The PMI Mentoring and Development Programme, proudly sponsored by the People's Partnership and offered in partnership with the Institute of Leadership.

Mentoring was traditionally considered as the passing of knowledge from a more experienced peer to a less experienced one, but it is now recognised that both parties should obtain significant benefits from the relationship.

Step into a transformative professional journey with the 2024/25 Programme, igniting growth from April 3, 2024 to March 31 2025.

Target Audience

Mentees

  • Student or junior level member who has recently joined the Pensions industry
  • PMI member who wants to expand their existing knowledge or gain new skills by connecting with a senior professional within the Pensions industry
  • PMI member who has been out of the workplace for some time (eg, maternity leave, sabbatical, working temporarily within another sector) and would like some 1:1 guidance with re-joining the Pensions industry
  • Any PMI member who would like to progress in their role, set on a career promotion or other opportunities within the Pensions sector

Mentors

  • Senior PMI member (preferably APMI or FPMI status) who can evidence their experience in leadership, mentoring and/or coaching roles. 
  • Senior PMI member who wants to give back to the industry by supporting new professionals entering the sector
  • Senior member wishing to expand their existing network
  • Senior member looking for self reflection opportunities

Programme Structure

  • 12-month duration, designed to support both mentors and mentees, in their own time at their pace, and in a mode that suits them best.
  • A minimum of SIX sessions throughout the 12 months
  • Mentors will preferably be a Fellow or Associate member of the PMI but all mentors must be able to demonstrate significant mentoring or leadership experience
  • Mentors will be paired with  one mentee throughout the year long programme by PMI. The pairings will be based on the applicants profile and responses provided in the application form.
  • The first introductory call between each pairing will require the mentee's manager to join 
  • Minimum of one meeting every two months - Flexible frequency to be agreed upon by each pair including dates, time and location (if applicable)
  • All Mentees required to complete the IoL 'My Leadership Programme' - a minimum of 10 components, including the self-awareness component. 
  • Mentors can opt-in to complete the IoL 'My Leadership Programme' - a minimum of 10 components, including the self-awareness component. (Approximately 15-20 hours to complete required minimum of 10 modules). The suggested learning hours may vary depending on previous knowledge and individual learning styles.
  • Free access to The Institute of Leadership's (IoL) resources including videos, articles, webinars and much more
  • PMI Mentoring and Development Programme workbook with full schedule of key dates for the 24/25 programme
  • Six virtual touchpoint calls arranged by the PMI throughout the programme with external guest speakers covering relevant topics relevant to Mentoring and the Pensions sector specially selected for mentees and mentors. 
  • All participants are required to join a minimum of THREE virtual touchpoint calls throughout the year.
  • All participants on the programme are required to maintain active PMI membership throughout the program.
  • PMI continuously monitors progress throughout the programme and will receive monthly engagement reports from the IoL with regards to the 'My Leadership Programme' completion status of all mentees'.

  • Choice to renew your membership with the IoL for a further 12 month period free of charge
  • Access to relevant research updates
  • Opportunity to contribute to articles, webinars or podcasts featuring your testimonials
  • Access to IoL's resources throughout and for 12 months post-program.

  • Choice to renew your membership with the IoL for a further 12 month period free of charge
  • Certificate of Programme completion
  • Claim up to 10 hours CPD for 2024
