This qualification is designed to meet the needs of pensions staff who regularly liaise with members selecting options from a pension scheme. This qualification is concerned with improving member outcomes and providing guidance on benefit options. As this guidance is in the area of non-regulated advice the qualification provides an overview of the distinction between regulated and non-regulated advice, the different types of pension scheme and the factors that need to be considered in making decisions in regard to benefits. It covers various options and situations, including: joining, leaving, transferring, retirements, commutation, death, and divorce.

Stage 1 | Modules 1-4 (Multiple Choice Questions):

Once you are registered onto the qualification and your details have been uploaded to the TestReach portal by the PMI, you will receive instructions from the TestReach email address, which will instruct you on how you should book and sit your assessment for Modules 1-4. We recommend a combined time of 3 months to revise and sit your assessment of Modules 1-4. The pass mark stands at 80% overall.

Stage 2 | Modules 5-11 (Case Study Assignments)

Modules 5-11 are case study assignments. Once you have completed Stage 1 and you are ready to complete Modules 5-11, please email, PMIQualifications@pensions-pmi.org.uk and request the documents/questions for Modules 5-11. You will be emailed these directly and will then be instructed to answer all questions and email your answers back to the PMI. Your answers will then be forwarded on to one of our expert assessors, who will mark your Modules 5-11 and let us know the result. We will then let you know whether you have passed or failed.

We recommend a combined time of 6 months to revise, sit and return your case study assignments to the PMI. The pass mark stands at 80% overall.

Stage 3 | Module 12 (Oral Assessment)

The final module is Module 12, your oral assessment, where you will be given a ‘scenario’ which you will an enact over a mock call, as if you were helping a member over the phone. This oral assessment is held via Microsoft Teams within a 30-minute time slot and recorded for the purposes of sending the recording onto the entire CPSMG Committee to review and mark. The assessment must be booked in at least 4 weeks in advance after completing Modules 5-11. Your results for this assessment should be with you approximately 2 weeks after sitting your assessment.

The pass mark for this assessment currently stands at 67%. This stage is the only one that requires a resit fee to be paid if failed (currently £150, excluding membership).

Please note: To sit this qualification you must be at least a Student member of the PMI, currently £178 (£75 from 1 April 2024 – 31 August 2024) . The student membership year runs from the 1 September to 31 August.
