A generation of middle-aged Britons are at risk of poverty in retirement due to inadequate pensions savings. Having missed out on gold-plated final salary schemes, many of these workers have only recently started saving towards a pension through auto enrolment and are running out of time to build up a pot that is adequate to support them in retirement.
The pace of reform has been slow, but is it too late to improve outcomes for this so-called ‘lost generation’ of pensions? How can providers, asset managers and regulators work together to maximise Defined Contribution pension savings and investment returns for workers who have less time to prepare for retirement?
At the upcoming roundtable we’ll explore some of the challenges at hand and consider the changes that would need to be implemented to ensure pensions adequacy for older DC savers.

Roundtable hosts:
Jess leads the Phoenix Corporate Investment Services (CIS) business and team and is responsible for the strategic direction of the investment only platform. Phoenix CIS is a distinct business unit within Phoenix Group’s wider Workplace trading channel, creating and delivering bespoke investment solutions for the trustees of single employer DC and DB schemes and multi-employer Master Trusts.
Working closely with trustee clients and their consultants, she oversees key propositional and service enhancements to meet the ongoing needs of schemes and their members.
Catherine Foot is Director of Phoenix Insights, a new think tank set up to transform the way society responds to the possibilities of longer lives. Phoenix Insights is part of The Phoenix Group, the UK’s largest long-term savings and retirement business.
Catherine is a research and policy specialist in ageing and longevity, and from 2015 to 2021 was Director of Evidence at the Centre for Ageing Better, a charitable foundation funded by The National Lottery Community Fund, and part of the government’s What Works Network. Catherine has also held senior roles at the health and social care think tank The King’s Fund, and the medical research charity Cancer Research UK.
