Morningstar Europe Ltd
Head Of Sales

As stewards of some of the largest pools of capital in the world, asset owners are a critical part of the global market ecosystem. As fiduciaries for their key stakeholders and plan participants, they are sounding boards on global markets, investment policies and standards. As part of Morningstar’s Voice of the Asset Owner Survey, asset owners tell us what they need in terms of support to help meet their challenges, such as market data, indexes, tools, research, and insights.

Yet while the world’s largest institutional investors are highly committed to ESG, a number of factors have constrained their ability to implement ESG strategies in their investment portfolios. Climate is in the driver’s seat when it comes to ESG concerns. In this session we discuss how asset owners are committed to ESG, but challenged.

Paul Akehurst

CBRE Global Workplace Solutions
Energy & Sustainability Director

From investor to facilities manager, where is the balance of power when it comes to the climate crisis? The vast majority of Real Estate assets will still be with us in 2050 – the target date for most Net Zero trajectories – so who is driving change, who is making the decisions about what to do and who is best placed to advise? A ‘ground floor’ perspective looks at the challenges facing asset managers, what can they do and what are the key questions that the Real Estate industry should be asking investors.

ESG climate metrics: What are you measuring? Why are you measuring it and does it make any difference?
David Brown
David Brown
Pensions for Purpose
Senior Director & Training Lead

Most pension schemes over £1billion in AUM are now required to produce a TCFD report. This session will explore what these schemes are measuring and what are the limitations, such as the availability of Scope 3 emissions data. It will also consider how to respond to new reporting frameworks such as the TNFD. Where should the focus be? Ultimately, reporting and metrics alone does not address the climate and biodiversity emergencies so how are pension funds using their reporting to inform future investment strategy? In short, have all the new reporting requirements made any difference?
